As Spring tries to break forth, plans are in the works by area churches to celebrate Easter. Holders Chapel Methodist Church invites everyone to their Sunrise Service on Easter Day, March 31.

The service will begin at 7 a.m.and the message will be brought by the pastor of Millsap First Baptist Church. Breakfast will follow at 8 a.m.

For those who enjoy hunting eggs, Midpoint Chapel ( 2312 South FM 113) invites kids and their families to join them for this activity on March 24. The party will start at 3 p.m. and a hotdog meal will be served. There will be a special worship service to wrap up the evening. Sounds like some good plans for celebrating this very special holiday.

On another note from Holders Chapel, the church family invites everyone to join them for their Spring Festival on April 20. The day will begin on the church grounds at 7 a.m. with a Yard Sale. There will be a Bake Sale and Silent Auction. For lunch a hamburger ($6) or hotdog ($5) plate, including a drink, can be enjoyed. There will be a beautiful queen-sized quilt raffled off, so with all of this to choose from go out and join these folks for some good items and a good time!

Mrs. Fay Fisher, a member of the pioneer DeBusk family, recently passed away. While she was listed as a Weatherford resident her roots were in the Soda Springs community. Condolences to her sons Larry, Ronny, Mikeand other family members.

Two well-known young men from the community have recently joined the military. Tyler French, son of Jamie and Diana French, has chosen the Army reserve. Jonathan Cribbs, son of John and Stephanie Brents, has been accepted by the Marine Corps. Both are graduates of Millsap High School and will soon be leaving for basic training. We are very proud of them both and are thankful that they have made the decision to join those who protect our nation.

As previously mentioned there is going to be a new restaurant and grocery store on Highway 180 West at the blinking Cool lights. The owner of the Blue Windmill is Willia Holley, a Whitt resident. A widow, she moved to the area to be close to family and is the former owner of a very successful cafe in Comstock, TX. She has some great ideas and plans to open the first week in March. 

In the beginning, the owner will be serving hamburgers and have a cold case with milk and eggs, plus bread for sale. As she progresses there will be a full menu with fish Friday and a wild plate, which will include seasonal meats like quail. The hours will be 6 a.m.-6 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday. A self-described mover and shaker, Willia is excited about meeting the community and getting the business started. She welcomes everyone to come by and visit her and enjoy a bite.

Here's one of the neatest things I've seen in a while; down at Walden's Farm and Ranch Supply (Millsap) they have a hen house. On the grounds is a wooden building with a bright yellow sign that welcomes everyone to the Hen House. Inside is tub after tub of all kinds of baby chicks, with signs all around with info about the various breeds. 

Here's the best part – there's a 3-foot stuffed hen, with real feathers, standing on a shelf looking down on all the offspring. Someone put a lot of time and effort into this project and it has drawn much attention.

In conjunction with the chicks the business will be holding Chicken Seminars. The Weatherford store, 2551 South Main St., will have their event on March 9, 10 a.m. The Millsap location on Fairview Road will host March 23 at 10 a.m. Each household is eligible to get two free chicks for attending the seminars which teach "family flock nutrition and management." 

The Hen House itself is a great place for kids to get to enjoy and the seminars are great teaching tools for those interested in farm animals. Just the right time of year to take the family out and enjoy all of this.

With more from the Millsap Alumni Scholarship Foundation, they report that of the 48 Seniors in the Class of 2013, 45 have plans to attend college. The foundation provides a scholarship to each senior who follows through with these plans. Donations in any amount to the foundation are very welcome, or individual scholarships are great; all are tax deductible. These young people are going to need this help, so if interested call (940) 682-4402 to discuss details or for more info.

Dates to remember: March 4 the Cool City Council will have their regular meeting, 6 p.m., at Cool Community Center.March 7 Stakeholder Meeting with the public invited to join Precinct 3 Commisssioner Larry Walden for discussing such items as polices to help with longterm goals and how precincts work. This will take place at the Millsap Community Center at 7 p.m.
