MILLSAP —
As the weather continues to move us toward fall, our ever faithful fire department has provided us with some wonderful news, which they are responsible for having made happen.
Through countless hours of hard work over the last five years, they have now lowered the City of Millsap’s public protection classification. The Insurance Service Office through a series of specs determines the level of protection an area has. The best score is a one, with Millsap receiving a rating of 4/8b. Fewer than 10 percent of the fire departments in the United States have a PPC score of 4 or less. The split rating is due to a lack of fire hydrants in the area, but the department is already working toward getting the split classification removed.
This great rating helps on our insurance costs, so be sure to let your agent know about the new rating, as it will officially take place on Jan. 1, 2011. A big congratulations to our firefighters, and much thanks for again helping our community!
Newberry Church had a great anniversary celebration on Sept. 19, with a day full of worship and reminiscing which culminated with some good singing under the tabernacle. Thanks to Eventide water all the singers and listeners were well hydrated as they enjoyed the festivities in the heat. This church is the oldest in Parker County, celebrating 142 years. In conjunction with this great milestone, Pat Newberry, Stu Upchurch and Barbara Nevil put together some wonderful memory books that were enjoyed by everyone. May the Lord continue to bless this energetic church family!
Over at Midpoint Chapel the folks are enjoying a much-needed new roof and preparing for their 12th anniversary which will take place on Nov. 14. Their steeple will be going back up soon, and a new front porch is in the works. God continues to bless there.
Joe Barnes recently celebrated a birthday with a party. Held in Mineral Wells, it was come and go. It was a great time for this wonderful guy to visit with family and friends on his special day. Congratulations, Mr. Barnes!
My youngest daughter, Billi, and oldest granddaughter, Emily, celebrated birthdays on Sept. 19. It thrills us that they were born on the same day, so we are doubly blessed in this way. May both of you girls have a great coming year!
The Community Center looks absolutely wonderful, both inside and out, and except for a few minor touches all of the redo is finished. Walden’s graciously provided the sign, and countless volunteer hours went into this project, which were sorely needed. A big thank you to each and every person who helped in any way.
The officers also wish to thank all who participated in the recent pancake supper, and issue special thanks to Metro Food Store. Also, remember the memory/cookbook that is being compiled. Send stories and recipes to 410 W.W. Lane or P.O. Box 127, Millsap TX 76066.
