MILLSAP – With our nation’s president chosen for another four years, we can all be grateful that freedom still rings and we are the greatest country in the world.
While area early voting in Parker County was reported slower than usual, Election Day in Millsap brought a steady stream of voters to the Community Center. There was more traffic than usual, and the town had an excited air about it, and why not? Choosing the nation’s leader, along with other government officials, and voting on issues is very important.
While many were involved and participating on this front, the local post office is going through an adjustment period, under the leadership of its temporary new postmaster. We told you a couple of weeks ago that this job would be filled by Terry Thompson, of Morgan, however the postal service decided instead to send the postmaster from Glen Rose, David Elliott, to work here. He is very friendly and said that there will be a decision made later on as to who will be filling the position on a permanent basis.
As we begin to get into the preliminary steps of Christmas plans, the post office has two kinds of Christmas stamps on hand, plus packaging with a Christmas motif. Stop by, welcome Mr. Elliott, and pick up what you need for holiday mailing.
As always, students over at the elementary are busy on regular school work, plus some exciting extras in conjunction with Thanksgiving. On the 13th, students and anyone in the area who would like to come can enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving feast cooked by the cafeteria staff during lunch time. Tickets are $5 each and can be pre-purchased or bought in the office on feast day. On Nov. 15 students will be presenting a program in their cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. Grades K-5 will sing songs and put on skits about the upcoming holiday. The public is invited to this special presentation that the kids are excitedly looking forward to.
Also, the campus will be involved in a canned food drive before Thanksgiving, and all of the items collected will be distributed to area residents. The students and staff are working hard, and we applaud them in all of their efforts!
Awhile back, we wished James Chipman a “get well soon” from ankle surgery that he had in August, and we want him to know that as his healing is slow we are still thinking of him. This ankle has been a problem most of this very active gentleman’s life as a result of a bout with polio. While he has never let the problem keep him down, the surgery became an absolute necessity and the recovery is taking longer than expected. Stick with the rehab, Mr. Chipman and again you are wished a get well!
Nov. 11 is a day to remember on two fronts. It is Veterans Day, and may we be grateful to all of the Veterans who across the generations have been willing to serve to protect and keep us free. Some have given the ultimate sacrifice, may they not be forgotten. Let us also remember the family members who patiently waited and endured while their loved ones served. Thank you veterans!
Also, Nov. 11 is the day of the Millsap VFD turkey dinner. It will take place at Millsap Elementary, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. A donation for the meal will be taken at the door. There will be a split the pot raffle during the meal, and winning desserts from the dessert contest will be raffled off beginning at 1 p.m. Please go and have a great time, while supporting a worthy cause.
A last reminder that Midpoint Chapel, 2312 S. Farm-to-Market Road 113, Millsap, will have a free winter wear giveaway for area kids on Nov. 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Hats, gloves, coats, shoes and boots will be available.

As Spring tries to break forth, plans are in the works by area churches to celebrate Easter. Holders Chapel Methodist Church invites everyone to their Sunrise Service on Easter Day, March 31.

As we busily run from one thing to the next a good meal always makes it easier to keep on going, and we have a new business in Millsap that can help out on that front.

With fairly mild winter temperatures moving us out of January, plans by some of our area organizations are in the works for events in February. Among these is the third annual Millsap Community Health Fair, sponsored by the Millsap School Health Advisory Council.
