Ladies Home and Garden again spreads Christmas cheer to area seniors, shut ins

By Sharron Hudson | millsapnews@mineralwellsindex.com

MILLSAP – Merry Christmas! The hustle and bustle of all that surrounds celebrating this most wondrous occasion has been going on for several weeks, and now the event that we have been preparing for is here.

A traditional part of the Christmas season for the Millsap Neighborhood Ladies Home and Garden Club took place recently with the delivery of Santa goody bags to shut ins and senior citizens. The women delivered bags in Mineral Wells, Weatherford, Santo and surrounding areas to 63 folks. Special recipients were members of the Home and Garden Club who are 90 years of age and older.

There was lots of good visiting and many smiles surrounding this yearly endeavor and the

ladies wish to thank the Millsap Branch of Comanche Bank, Walden’s, Millsap Water Supply Corporation and Metro Food Store for their contributions, as well as the Millsap Elementary School children who decorated the bags. A very wonderful community effort!

The ladies are already making plans for 2012 as they will meet at the Millsap Community Center for their monthly meeting on Jan. 4 with visiting beginning at 10:30 a.m. There will be a potluck lunch and discussion of plans for the Annual Sweetheart Banquet, which is a spaghetti dinner fundraiser that will have a February date (to be announced soon). All ladies are welcome to the club meeting and everyone is urged to be watching for the date for the spaghetti dinner as this is always an enjoyable event.

The community has lost a very special lady with the home going of Miss Virginia Uribe. The oldest of 12 siblings, she was part of a Millsap pioneer family. A very kind Christian lady, who was loved by many, she will be greatly missed. Condolences to her family, which includes sisters Adelaide Raetz, of Fort Worth, and Marcella Uribe, of Millsap; and brother, Eusebio Uribe, and wife, Sally, of Millsap.

As we move into the new year, the Millsap Water Supply Corporation will hold its annual meeting on Jan. 17 at the Millsap Community Center starting at 7 p.m. There will not be an election of officers at the meeting due to changes in the Texas law pertaining to the selection/nomination process. A special meeting of the membership is March 22 to facilitate the needed election for expired positions on the board of directors. There is a sufficient number of directors to run the business of the corporation until the March election.

The Texas Municipal League Annual Conference and Exhibition proved a very worthwhile experience for City Councilman Michael Kinman and the city secretary. The conference was held in Houston by this nonprofit league that was founded in 1913 with the mission to serve the needs and advocate the interests of its members. With approximately 2,500 people in attendance, the two Millsap representatives attended workshops specific to helping with the needs of our town. Some of the topics learned more about included finances, ordinances, minutes, and agendas. The Millsap city government is already run so well, this new information will only make a very good government better.

With all of the wonderful rain the burn ban was recently lifted. Many are deciding to do outdoor burning, so we are asked to call the Parker County Fire Marshall at (817) 598-0969 or go to the PCMC website and fill out a burn notification form prior to any outdoor burning.

May you and yours have a blessed Christmas as we rejoice.

"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:11.
