MILLSAP – Millsap students are very busy as they are ending the fall semester, and preparing for the Christmas holiday. Third and fourth grade students were looking forward to a trip to Bass Hall to see “The Nutcracker.”
This cultural event was made possible for the students through a donation from the Alice Walton Foundation. This was sure to have been a wonderful experience for the kids as they travelled through downtown Fort Worth and viewed the beautiful city Christmas decorations and then attended a memorable event. Other activities the kids will enjoy include school Christmas parties on Monday and awards assemblies taking place on Dec. 20.
The high school basketball teams will remain busy even during the holiday break as the girls will play in a tournament in Mineral Wells on Dec. 27-28, while the boys will play in Bridgeport on Dec. 28-29. Games will also be played with Jacksboro on Jan. 3 and the spring school semester under the direction of the new Superintendent Dr. David Belding will begin for the kids on Jan. 5.
With Christmas falling on Sunday some of the area churches have modified their service schedules. Newberry Church will gather at 10 a.m. for communion and a special time of worship. Midpoint Chapel will have services at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., with no evening service. The First Methodist Church of Millsap will not have a service on Dec. 25, but issues a special invitation to everyone to attend a Candlelight Service on December 24 at 6 p.m.
The Millsap Graduating Class of 1941 has lost a very special alumni. Classmate Glen Youngblood, of San Angelo, recently passed away. He had remained active in alumni endeavors, and will be missed by the graduates who knew him. Condolences to his sisters, Geneva Carter, of this area and Kathleen Jackson, of Burleson.
Our post office is abuzz with activity as many are getting packages and cards mailed out for the holiday. Postmaster Amanda Fowler cordially invites everyone to come by anytime on Monday for refreshments. She and the staff will be glad to help with any last minute mail outs and are always going beyond the call of duty to be helpful. Don’t you love being able to count on getting and sending mail?
The food pantry located at the Millsap First Baptist Church has many people who count on it to supplement their groceries. This is an endeavor that is supported by many of the churches and organizations of the area, and while they do a fantastic job of keeping the pantry supplied there is always need for more items.
The program is open every Tuesday, 8-10 a.m., and volunteers take in and distribute food and household supplies while checking criteria necessary for eligibility to receive goods. This is a community effort to supply those in our community who are in need, so any contribution will be greatly appreciated.
As Virginia Uribe is ill, we wish her a speedy recovery. It’s good to hear that Suzan Channer has gotten to come from a Metroplex care center to Holland Lake Nursing and Rehab Center in Weatherford. We hope she has a good Christmas with moving back closer to her family and home.
Reminders: there will be no singing at Lambert on Dec. 24. Also, with the Millsap Public Library closing for basically the school holiday schedule, please do not return materials to this library. They can be returned to the Weatherford Library or other Parker County Library Association library.
