Santo Wildcats improve to 14-3 after victory

HICO – Santo held off a late Hico rush as the Wildcats outlasted the Tigers, 47-45, here Friday night.

Parker Conaway led the Wildcats (14-3) with 18 points, with Cooper Barling adding 11.

Also scoring for Santo were Christopher Hoover with nine points, Jordan Edwards with three, and Tim Long, Keith Chalker and Tayler Jones, each with two.

Santo led 15-7 after the opening period and built a 32-20 lead at the half.

But Hico outscored Santo 7-5 in the third quarter to cut the SHS lead to 37-27 as the game moved to the fourth quarter.

Hico scored 18 points in the final stanza, but it was not enough as the ‘Cats hung on for the win.

MWJH teams fall to Aledo MS

Battling it out with a tough Aledo Middle School squad, the Mineral Wells Junior High School Lady Rams seventh-grade  “A” team fell just short in a 28-20 loss to the Ladycats.

Leading scorers for the MWJH ladies were Kaylee Gregory and Mia Ragland, each with six points.

Gregory also led the team on the defensive end with five steals and three rebounds. Also, according to coach Tammy Williams, “working hard on defense were Sunni Lemley and Savannah Choate.”

“These ladies have come a long way and are improving themselves everyday,” Williams continued. “They work hard and it is showing.”

In seventh-grade “C” team action, the Lady Rams fell to Aledo, 30-10.

Leading scorers for the Lady Rams were Shaylee Pesqueda and Tatum Wharton, each with four points.

Bailee Romero led the team in steals with five, and Kaitlynn Bryan and Savannah Tuggle each recorded six rebounds and four steals.
