Freshman Braxton Allen strikes out 10 in Rams’ win

STAFF REPORTS

Mineral Wells pitcher Braxton Allen struck out 10 batters and allowed just three hits to lead the Rams to a 9-1 victory over Eastland Tuesday night at Pratt Field.

Allen, a freshman, gave up only one walk in six innings.

Brandon Martinez came on in the seventh to finish the game, allowing one hit with a strikeout.

“Braxton pitched really well after settling down in the second inning,” Rams head coach Bret Barrick said. “Brandon has done a great job in relief the last two outings.

“We played good defense and hit the ball well. We also did a good job on the bases and manufactured some runs by getting into scoring position by running the bases well.

“Overall, a good night and I am very pleased with our effort and attitude of trying to get better every game.

“We had a lot of guys playing different positions, and they are doing a great job settling in and making plays.”

At the plate, Martinez recorded a double and Paden Patino swatted a triple.

The Rams scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead.

MWHS added a run in the third, two in the fourth and closed the scoring with three runs in the sixth.

The Rams (4-2) will host a rotation tournament beginning today.

MWHS will play at 11 a.m. at Pratt Field against Western Hills and at a 4 p.m. against Decatur.
