Lady Pirates win second tourney of season

GORMAN – Winning their second tournament of the season, the 14-3 Perrin Lady Pirates defeated Blanket, 34-19, Saturday for the championship of the Gorman tournament.

Scarlett Bowen led the Lady Pirates with 11 points, with Makaila Brooks adding nine.

Also scoring for the Lady Pirates were Kirsten Barbare with six points, Kelsie Anderson and Preslee Cox, each with three, and Kelsey Hutton with two.

Perrin defeated Priddy, 24-16, on Friday to reach the championship game, and began tournament play with a 50-26 comeback victory over Throckmorton.

Against Throckmorton, Bowen led the Lady Pirates with 18 points. Also scoring were Barbare with nine points, Hutton and Cox, each with eight, Jaydin Holt with four and Brooks with three.

Price’s double double leads Strawn to win

STRAWN – Jayde Price scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the No. 8 Strawn Lady Hounds to a 63-30 win over Rising Star here Friday night.

Also scoring for Strawn (13-5) were Jacqueline Berumen with 14 points, Cori Pollock with 13, Shelly Abbott with nine, Eva De Gregorio with three and Cidney Pollock with two.

Abbott nearly recorded a double double as she led the team with nine assists, with Berumen adding eight helpers.

Strawn led 20-7 after the first quarter and built a 40-14 cushion at the half. The Lady Hounds scored 17 points in the third period while holding Rising Star to nine to take a 57-23 lead into the fourth quarter.

Ladycats move to 17-2 after 50-39 win

HICO – Sarah Van Remmen and Payton Billue each scored 14 points to lead the No. 5 Santo Ladycats to a 50-39 win over Hico here Friday night.

Also scoring for the Ladycats (17-2) were Breeana Raffaele with seven points, Courtney Flanagan with six, Alyssa McKennon with five and Taylor Nemeth with four.

Santo led 16-9 after the first quarter and built a 31-14 lead at the break.

Hico outscored Santo 14-12 in the third period to cut the Ladycats’ lead to 43-28 as the game moved to the fourth quarter.
