Senior running back Gilbert Castorena ended his final game as a Mineral Wells Ram against Kennedale on Nov. 9.
He rushed for 1,562 yards this year to lead all area Class 3A rushers.
He became the fourth Ram in school history to rush for more than a 1,000 yards in two consecutive years.
Gary Sherely (1971-72), Henry Anders (1985-87) and Kelvin Thompson (2004-2005) were the first three.
Anders is the only player to do it three years in a row. Anders’ son, Jess Anders, is the star running back for Aledo this season. He is just a sophomore.
Castorena moved into third place on the career rushing list for the Rams. His 1,562 yards coupled with his 1,072 yards as a junior gives Castorena 2,634 career yards.
He scored 98 points on the season with 12 touchdowns and booted 26 of 30 extra points.
Shelstead on scoring streak
In two games, Lady Rams senior post Sydney Shelstead has scored 52 points for an average of 26.5 points per game.
The Lady Rams lost their season opener to Class A No. 1 Lipan, but the locals came back with a solid win over Burleson Centenial.
The Rams opened their season on Nov. 13 with a win over Fort Worth Eastern Hills.
Dashawn Hicks scored 16 points in the 56-50 win.
The Rams followed with a win over Graham on Friday.
Hardee has two more years
Ram sophomore Josh Hardee didn’t see a lot of action on offense, but when he did, he made the most of this time.
Hardee rushed for 277 yards on 27 carries. He averaged 10.26 yards per carry.
Junior Colby Kissinger rushed six times for 80 yards for an average of 13.33 per carry. The returning twosome were big-time defensive defenders.
Hardee led the Rams with 93 tackles and one interception. He also caused four fumbles.
Kissinger made 40 tackles on the year and came up with two interceptions.
Martinez Rams’ leading receiver
Rams senior wide out Brandon Martinez became the Rams leading receiver this season with 20 catches for 206 yards.
Jarred Bennett had 17 receptions, while Isaiah Williams had 16 catches.
Sophomore quarterback Caleb Acosta ended the year with 1,039 yards passing.
He completed 105 out of 179 attempts for a completion percentage of .587.
