Sweeping visiting Springtown Friday at Ram Stadium, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams and Rams soccer teams jumped out to 2-0 records in District 12-4A play.
The Lady Rams won the early match, 4-0, paced by two goals from Miriam Garcia.
Emily Clingings and Bre Hinojos each scored a goal, and goalkeepers Rebecca Langley and Alana Holly shared the shutout.
The Rams defeated Springtown, 8-0, with Serjio Castillo earning a “hat trick” by scoring three goals.
Caleb Bandy earned the shutout in goal.
“Serjio played very well and controlled the middle very well,” Rams head coach Rolando Borjon said. “(Assistant) coach (Eric) Martinez had talked to him about feeding the ball more and it paid off.”
Also scoring for the Rams were Gerardo Moya, Gilbert Castorena (on a free kick from a out 40 yards out), Adan Ortiz, Colby Kissinger and Roberto Martinez (on an assist from Richard Munoz).
“Once again, the defense from Emiliano Silva, Bryan Flores, Jose Garcia, Dylan Pruitt and Juan Andrade came up big and only allowed three shots on goal,” Borjon said. “Everyone on the team had something to contribute and that’s always a plus.”
Also collecting assists were Ortiz and Eric Parker.
