ITALY – Dallas Oak Cliff Life defeated the Mineral Wells Lady Rams, 49-44, Saturday night in the championship game of the Italy tournament.
The Lady Rams (5-4) had defeated Meridian on Thursday and Maypearl on Friday to reach the championship game.
Sydney Shelstead, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the Lady Rams against Oak Cliff Life with 26 points.
Also scoring for the Lady Rams were Niya Benavides with 11 points, Bethany Allen with three, and Courtney Peña and Natalie Ragland, each with two.
Rams defeat Springtown, 49-42
JACKSBORO – After defeating Trinity Valley in the Jacksboro tournament opener on Thursday and falling to Breckenridge on Friday, the Mineral Wells Rams rebounded to take a 49-42 victory over Springtown on Saturday.
Mineral Wells junior guard DaShawn Hicks led all scorers with 23 points, with sophomore guard Biren Clardy adding eight. Hicks also had three steals to lead the team.
Senior forward A.J. Williams led the Rams on the boards with seven rebounds, with senior post Ricky Scott adding six.
Also scoring for the Rams were senior post Cris Valdez and Scott, each with six points, and senior forward Ty Ashley and sophomore forward Juvaree Sutton, each with two.
Springtown led 8-5 after the opening period, but the Rams scored eight points in the second quarter while holding the Porcupines to seven to tie the score at 15-15 at the break.
In the third period, Mineral Wells went on a 12-7 run to take a 27-22 lead into the fourth quarter.
Mineral Wells exploded for 22 points in the final stanza to clinch the victory.
