Rams rush for 336 yards in district-opening 49-35 win over Castleberry

RIVER OAKS – When Castleberry began the District 6-3A opener with a successful onside kick recovery, most fans knew it would not be an ordinary game.

But after 12 touchdowns, five interceptions, a blocked field goal and a combined 11 penalties, the Mineral Wells Rams came out on top and outlasted the Lions, 49-35, here Friday night to spoil Castleberry’s homecoming.

The Rams scored on offense and defense. MWHS pounded the Lions for 336 rushing yards, including 221 yards by senior running back Gilbert Castorena, and they scored on defense when Colby Kissinger picked off Lions’ QB Francisco Perez and returned the pass 38 yards to the end zone.
