Mineral Wells High School senior Sammy Poynor proved to be a double threat this past season for the Mineral Wells High School football team. He was good on the field ... and in the classroom.
Poynor was honored as the 2009 Rams' Student Athlete award winner last week at the MWHS Booster Club's Fall Sports Banquet. He was among more than 30 athletes honored for their efforts during the fall sports season.
"He has the high academic standards you love to see in a student, and he was a very good football player," said Rams' head coach Chuck Lawrence in presenting the award.
Poynor was one of Mineral Wells' top receivers this past season.
