SANTO – Emily Boetz, Ashton Waters and Tiffany Brown each scored in double figures Saturday and powered the Millsap High School Lady Bulldogs to a 54-34 win over 14th-ranked Hico in the championship game of the Santo Invitational Basketball Tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs went 3-0 in the tournament, outscoring their opponents by a staggering 181-84.
Hico, now 8-1 for the year, had rolled into the tournament finals fresh off a win over 17th-ranked Strawn in the semifinals.
Boetz, Waters and Brown proved to be too much for the Lady Tigers. Boetz pumped in a game-high 18 points in the contest, while Waters and Brown contributed 13 and 12, respectively.
Millsap had earned a spot in the final on Friday by hammering out a 53-38 win over the Santo Lady 'Cats.
In that game, Waters poured in 21 points, while teammate Libby Meeker reeled off 11.
The Lady Bulldogs, who are coached by Jackie Jeter, opened the Santo tournament with a dominating effort against Lingleville. The MHS girls dispatched Lingleville by a 74-12 margin.
The three wins in Santo extended Millsap's recent win streak to four. The Lady Bulldogs had entered the tournament fresh off a 51-47 win over 24th-ranked Lipan.
Ashleigh Edwards led the way for MHS in that win, tallying 15 points.
