SPRINGTOWN – The Muenster Hornets reeled off 26 points in the first half Friday night and then held off a late Perrin-Whitt rally to claim a 39-14 bi-district playoff victory in front of a large crowd at Springtown's Porcupine Stadium.

With the win, Muenster improved to 8-3 for the season, and advances into a regional playoff date with Albany. Perrin-Whitt finishes the 2009 season with a 5-6 record.

Muenster controlled the game during the first two quarters. The Hornets scored on their first possession to snare an early 7-0 lead.

The news only got worse for the Pirates from there. Muenster turned a blocked punt and a fumble later in the first into a pair of touchdowns and a 19-0 lead with 10:29 left in the first half.

The Hornets returned a fumble handoff 26 yards for another later in the second and took a commanding 26-0 lead into the half.

After Muenster had upped its lead to 33-0, Perrin-Whitt hit stride. The Pirates posted their first score midway through the fourth quarter when Bryson McGee capped a nine-play, 70-yard march by hauling in a 22-yard scoring strike from Dusty Salazar.

The Pirates added to their highlight reel seconds later. Bryce Cameron recovered Perrin's ensuing onside kick and set the P-WHS offense in motion at the Pirate 49.

Salazar, who completed 11 of his 21 passes for 136 yards, burned the Hornets' defense on the first play from scrimmage by hitting McGee with a 51-yard scoring pass.

McGee's second score of the game pulled the Pirates to within 33-14.

Unfortunately for Perrin, Muenster answered right back.
