Strawn clinches district title with romp over Gordon
STRAWN – The Strawn High School Greyhounds scored on eight of their nine offensive plays Friday evening and rolled to an easy 75-8 win over rival Gordon.
With the win, Strawn clinched its first district championship since 2002, and improved to 8-1 heading into next week's regular season finale against Gustine. Gordon slipped to 0-9.
The Strawn defense also aided the Greyhounds' win, scoring three times, including one via a 56-yard interception return by senior Victor Reyes.
Gordon managed to throw an early scare in the No. 2-ranked 'Hounds. The Longhorns turned a Strawn fumble into a 1-yard touchdown pass from John Cherry to Clayton Kline, and an 8-6 lead.
Strawn's initial touchdown came when James Miller recovered a Gordon fumble in the end zone on the game's third play.
Strawn rallied back to take a 22-8 first-quarter lead.
The Greyhounds, powered by two long runs by J.T. Sharp, sealed the win with a 43-0 run in the second quarter.
