Rams, Lady Rams back in action after holiday break

By TONY EIERDAM

After taking the University Interscholastic League’s mandatory five-day break at Christmas, both the Mineral Wells Rams and Lady Rams basketball teams will play in tournaments beginning Thursday.

The Rams (8-8) are coming off a win against Brownwood, while the Lady Rams (13-5) defeated Ferris in their final game before the break.

The Rams have had an up-and-down pre-district season and are hoping to put together a win streak at the bracket-style Bridgeport tournament.

The Rams will begin tournament play at 9 a.m. Thursday against Granbury, and win or lose will play later that day at 4:30 p.m.

Bracket play will continue Friday and Saturday, with the championship game slated for 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Lady Rams are on a five-game winning streak and will play in the Burkburnett tournament, a two-day affair.

The Lady Rams will play two “pool” games on Thursday – at 10:45 a.m. against Wichita Falls High School junior varsity, and at 6:45 p.m. against Seymour.

The tournament features two “pool” divisions. The other “pool” division teams are host Burkburnett, along with Hereford and Wichita Falls City View.

On Friday, the two teams that placed third in each pool will play at 10 a.m., followed by the two No. 2 teams, which will square off at noon.

The “championship” game, pitting the winners of the two pools, will be at 2 p.m.

The tournament represents the final tune-up games for the Lady Rams before they begin District 6-3A play on Friday Jan. 4, at Castleberry.

The Rams will begin District 6-3A play on Friday, Jan. 11, on the road at Fort Worth Diamond Hill.
