MW junior high teams back in Quad County

By LIBBY CLUETT | lcluett@mineralwellsindex.com

Mineral Wells ISD Athletic Director Chuck Lawrence announced at Tuesday’s school board meeting that Mineral Wells Junior High will once again compete in Quad County competition next year.

He explained to the board that MWJH was a founding member of Quad County. However, when the high school was bumped down to Class 3A in University Interscholastic League athletic and academic competition two years ago, Lawrence said MWJH joined a smaller consortium.

Switching back to Quad County allows all MWJH sports to be in the same consortium and “it’s going to save us a little in travel and we’ll be playing the bigger schools,” said Lawrence. “One of the biggest advantages is we will now have C teams, so more kids get to play.”

In the coming fall, MWJH football will again face teams from Glen Rose, Granbury, Weatherford, Aledo, Stephenville and Brewer. In volleyball, MWJH will also play Jacksboro.

The following is the fall lineup for MWJH sports:
