Mineral Wells High School head coach Chuck Lawrence will be honored by Cumby Independent School District officials on Sept. 5 when the district's football stadium is named in honor of him and friend Rick Frazier.
Lawrence, a 1972 graduate of Mineral Wells High School, and Frazier broke into coaching in the late 1970s by taking over the Cumby coaching duties — all of them. Under their leadership, Cumby developed into a power and won the school's only district football championship.
Next Saturday, Cumby will rename Trojan Stadium by christening it Frazier-Lawrence Stadium prior to their first home football game against Union Hill. The renaming ceremony will be held at 2 p.m., prior to the Trojans game with Union Hill.
