Former Mineral Wells Lady Rams post Shelby Simonton completed her first year of college basketball this year after playing her freshman season at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.
Simonton signed late after her senior season at MWHS – where she was an all-district, first-team post – and said UMHB expressed interest in her after the 2010-11 high school basketball season.
Simonton finished her senior year at MWHS with a 10.5 points per game average – which included a 46.6 field goal percentage – and almost 10 rebounds per contest (9.6). She also averaged 1.5 assists per game and 2.09 steals per contest. Simonton played three years on varsity in high school and also earned all-district, second-team honors her junior year.
Simonton played in six games for UMHB in the 2011-12 season, including seeing action in five conference games. She averaged one point a game and 1.3 rebounds per contest while averaging 3.5 minutes per game.
