Mineral Wells Rams junior sprinter DaShawn Hicks finished first in the boys’ 100-meter dash and Lady Rams senior thrower Shay Douglas placed first in shot put as the pair were the only Mineral Wells High School tracksters to earn gold medals Saturday at the Ram Relays.
Hicks ran a winning time of 10.98, while Douglas bested the field with a toss of 34 feet, 11 inches.
The Rams and Lady Rams also fared well in hurdles. Rams sophomore Juvaree Sutton earned a bronze medal for a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (42.36), and he finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.95). Rascellis Williams finished fourth in boys’ 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.73.
In girls’ hurdles, senior Taylor Parkhill placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.58) and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (51.87).
MWHS medaled in one relay race, the boys’ 400-meter (sprint) relay. The quartet of Omery Trevino, Sutton, Kyle West and Hicks ran a silver-medal time of 44.07.
In field events, senior Jacoby Prestwood placed third in shot put with a mark of 44 feet, 10 inches.
The next meet will be Friday and Saturday at the Bluebonnet Relays in Brownwood.
