FORT WORTH – Omar Hernandez and Gilbert Castorena each scored as the Mineral Wells Rams defeated Brewer, 2-0, here Tuesday night in a District 12-4A match.
The win lifts the Rams’ district mark to 4-2-1.
“The boys played very well,” Rams head coach Rolando Borjon said. “At half the score was 0-0 but I told the boys that we were playing very good and we were controlling the game.
“I was very pleased at half. We were playing at our best. I told them to just continue to play and we would catch a break and put one in.”
The two goals came 11 minutes apart. Borjon was very impressed with Castorena’s goal.
“With about 13 minutes left Serjio Castillo crossed a ball on the top of the 18-yard box where Gilbert trapped it with his chest and shot it on a volley into right bottom corner of the keeper.
“It was a one, two, punch kick; it happened so fast. We up 2-0 and our defense finished the game.”
Lady Rams 1, Brewer 1
Brewer was awarded a penalty kick with three minutes left to play and converted to tie the Mineral Wells Lady Rams, 1-1, Tuesday night at Brewer.
The ties leaves the Lady Rams with a 3-3-1 District 12-4A record.
After a scoreless first half, the Lady Rams took a 1-0 lead six minutes into the second half on a goal by Kylie Williams after a feed from Molly Clarke.
