Lawrence completes Rams' 2012 grid schedule

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS – Long before the day the University Interscholastic League reveals what districts schools will be placed in, high school football coaches try to put together a tentative non-district schedule.
The hope is that on the day the UIL announces the new districts – which was Thursday at Birdville Stadium – that coaches won’t find a school they have tentatively agreed to play in non-district football games in their new district.
Mineral Wells Rams head coach Chuck Lawrence had tentatively agreed to play five schools in non-district play in home-and-home series’ in 2012 and 2013, and much to his surprise none of those five teams landed in MWHS’ district.
MWHS will play in District 6-3A in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 school years along with Castleberry, lake Worth, Fort Worth Diamond Hill, Kennedale and Springtown, which drops to 3A beginning in the fall.
The Rams will tentatively open the 2012 season with non-district games against Graham, Wichita Falls Hirschi, Glen Rose, Iowa Park and Burkburnett. Dates and places for all games will be determined later in the spring.
“It is always a crap shoot when you set up games (before the redistricting day), but fortunately the UIL did not send us north, and that was what I was worried about.
“I would have been looking for four games (Graham, Iowa Park, Burkburnett and Hirschi landed in District 5-3A) if that had happened.”

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS – The University Interscholastic League has spoken, and it has instructed Mineral Wells to head east.

Mineral Wells High School caught a travel break when it found out it would play in District 6-3A beginning in the 2012-13 school year, with the furthest travel being to Kennedale in far southeast Tarrant County.

MWHS and Kennedale will be joined by Castleberry, Lake Worth, Fort Worth Diamond Hill and Springtown, which drops to Class 3A.
