GRAFORD – Rhiana Michou scored 18 points and Shauna Coleman added 17 as the pair led the state-ranked No. 1 Lipan Lady Indians to a 78-41 win over the Graford Lady Rabbits here Tuesday night in a non-district contest.
Lipan stays unbeaten at 3-0, while the Lady Rabbits slip to 2-1.
“Lipan is really good and they create a lot of match up problems for us,” Lady Rabbits head coach Jarod Westmoreland said. “We did not handle their pressure the way I hoped we would. This game showed us what we need to work on and fix up some defensive problems.”
Erika Chemello scored 10 points to lead Graford, with Tyler Wimberly adding nine. Also scoring for the Lady Rabbits were Morgan Hendershott with eight points, Sydney Wimberly with six, Ashly Rogers with five and Katie Rochelle with three.
Also scoring for Lipan were Kayla Wheeler with 13 points, Lanie Roberts with 10, Taylor Herrera and Tallen Halliday, each with six, and Katelyn Martin with two.
Price scores 36 to lead Strawn to win
STRAWN – Jayde Price scored a game-high 36 points to lead Class A No. 6 Strawn Lady Hounds to a 66-45 win over Tolar here Tuesday night.
Also scoring for the Lady Hounds (5-2) were Jacqueline Berumen with 16 points, Cori Pollock with six, Shelly Abbott with four, Cidney Pollock with two, and Eva de Gregorio and Tearany Atkins, each with one.
Strawn jumped out to a 25-5 lead after the first quarter and led 43-20 at the half. Tolar went on a 14-7 run in the third period to cut the lead to 50-34 as the game moved to the fourth quarter.
Ladycats hold off Paradise, 40-31
SANTO – State-ranked No. 25 Santo held off a late Paradise run as the Ladycats defeated the Lady Panthers, 40-31, here Tuesday night.
“Defense wins games when two teams are evenly matched, and I was pleased with the all-out effort we gave on defense,” Ladycats head coach Tony Raffaele said. “We still have some work on offense, but Paradise has some guards and a six-foot post who really got after it and caused some of the problems. It was a good win early in the season.”
Three Ladycats reached double figures including Sarah Van Remmen with 13 points, followed by Payton Billue with 11and Breeana Raffaele with10.
Santo led 11-9 after the first quarter and 15-12 at the half. The Ladycats went on a 14-7 run in the third period to take a 29-19 lead into the fourth quarter.
Also scoring for Santo were Courtney Flanagan with three points, Taylor Nemeth with two and Alyssa McKennon with one.
‘Cats win opener
SANTO – Paced by 15 points from Cooper Barling, the Santo Wildcats defeated Paradise, 51-47, here Tuesday in the season opener for both teams.
Also scoring for Santo were Tim Long with 13 points, Chris Hoover and Zarmorris Cannon, each with nine, Keith Chalker with three and Parker Conaway with two.
Millsap boys fall in opener, 54-46
MILLSAP – Dublin defeated the Millsap Bulldogs, 54-46, here Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams.
Dalyn Clanin scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs. Jaxon Martin recorded 11 points and a team-leading eight rebounds with five assists, and Rhett Butler finished with nine points.
Lady Pirates win
PERRIN – Scarlett Bowen scored 11 points and Kirsten Barbare added 10 to lead the Perrin Lady Pirates to a 52-28 win over Gorman on Tuesday.
Also scoring for Perrin were Kelsey Hutton with nine points, Makaila Brooks and Preslee Cox, each with six, Hailee Fowler and Kelsey Anderson, each with four, and Kali Parker with two.
Hutton and Anderson each grabbed nine rebounds to lead Perrin. Brooks had a team-high seven steals, and Jayden Holt and Parker each had four assists.
‘Rabbits win opener
GRAFORD – Quinten tabor and Pepe Paz each scored 12 points to lead the Graford Jackrabbits to a 74-49 win over Lipan here Tuesday night.
Also scoring for Graford were P{reston Ridgeway and Dylan Hart, each with 11 points, Tanner Hargrove with 10, Blake Smith and Quinten Reed, each with six, Ivan Hernandez with four and Lucas Simmons with two.
