Cameron, Evans power Pirates to 20-13 victory

FROST – Running back Bryce Cameron scored twice and Joseph Evans added another score to lead the Perrin-Whitt Pirates to a 20-13 win Friday over the Frost Polar Bears.

The Pirates improved to 2-1 on the season.

Frost struck first in the second quarter on an 18-yard run. The extra-point attempt failed and the Polar Bears had a 6-0 lead.

The Pirates answered with a 28-yard run to pay dirt by Cameron. The extra-point failed and the teams went into halftime deadlocked at 6.

After Frost scored in the third to take a 13-6 lead, Cameron again answered for the Pirates, this time on a 10-yard run. Cameron then tacked on a two-point conversion to stake Perrin-Whitt to a 14-13 lead.

Evans scored for the Pirates on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter for the game's final points.

Perrin-Whitt out-rushed the Polar Bears 266-167, with Cameron racking up 195 rushing yards on 18 carries, an average of 10.8 yards per carry.

Pirates quarterback Dusty Salazar was 2-for-4 passing. Receiver Bryson McGee hauled in one of those completions for 18 yards while Wesley Rice made a 40-yard grab.

The Pirates will travel to Millsap next Friday to face a Bulldogs team that improved to 3-0 on the season with their 13-6 win over Venus.
