Warriors open playoffs Thursday at TCA-Willow Park

CCS will face Odessa Latter Rain at 6:30 p.m. in state quarterfinals

By TONY EIERDAM

With everybody healthy and with momentum on their side, the Community Christian School Warriors have just completed a success district campaign and now look ahead to the playoffs.

Community Christian School will face Odessa Latter Rain Christian Academy in the state quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Willow Park Trinity Christian Academy.

The Warriors clinched a playoff spot after a 50-18 victory over Weatherford Christian. In that game, post Isaiah Brazeal had a monster game with 19 points, four assists, a steal, three blocked shots and 13 rebounds.

Isaiah’s cousin and teammate, Samuel Brazeal, is No. 6 in the Division in scoring, averaging 18 points a game while also averaging 17 rebounds per contest.

Isaiah Braziel also has proven to be a playmaker as he averages a team-high 4.7 assists per contest to go along with his 13.5 rebounds and 12.5 points per game average.

The Warriors as a team average 42 points per game and have an overall record of 12-14.

Although Warriors head coach Doug Jefferson pointed out that the Warriors have lost to LRCA twice in tournaments before district play, he feels he has a different team than he did when these two teams met in December.

“This will be a tough game, make no mistake,” he said. “But we did not have Isaiah and Cole (Vankirk) with us in those games, and both are 100 percent healthy now.

“We have gotten better reach week as a team, and I am confident in how we are playing right now. We have overcome our injuries, and we feel good as a team.”
