To mark the improvement of the young and inexperienced Mineral Wells Lady Rams basketball team one needs to look at the two district games played against Bridgeport.
The Lady Rams, playing with one varsity-experienced player in junior guard Niya Benavides and a cast of mainly freshmen and sophomores, fell 50-19 to the Sissies in a District 7-3A game on Jan. 13.
On Tuesday in the rematch at the MWHS gym, the game looked almost like the Jan. 13 contest when Bridgeport jumped out to a 19-0 lead. The Sissies led 14-3 on Tuesday and appeared on its way to another blowout win.
But something clicked – that something head coach Betsy Baughman had been waiting for with her young but talented squad – and the Lady Rams took charge.
After trailing by 11 in the opening period, the MWHS ladies outscored the Sissies 47-30 the rest of the game on its way to a 50-44 victory.
