The Mineral Wells Rams basketball team opened Granbury tourney play with a heart-breaking loss while the Lady Rams opened tourney play in Wylie with a win on Thursday.

GRANBURY — The Mineral Wells Rams saw a near-win slip away in the final seconds in a 52-50 loss to the Arlington Bowie Volunteers on Thursday in Mike Brown Auto Group Invitational Tournament play at Granbury High School.
Class 4A Mineral Wells never trailed Class 5A Arlington Bowie until the Volunteers hit a game-winning three-point shot with less than three seconds left in the game.
Mineral Wells took a 15-12 first-quarter lead and used a 15-7 second-quarter rally to take a 30-19 halftime lead.
Each team scored 12 third-quarter points before the Volunteers used a 21-8 fourth-quarter scoring spree to take the win.
Mineral Wells held an 11-point early fourth-quarter lead and a 50-49 lead with 2.26 seconds left in the game before the three-pointer gave Arlington Bowie the win.
Kevin Harvey led Mineral Wells in scoring with 14 points while Michael Ball was also in double figures with 10 points.
Brandon Hardeman tossed in nine points and Mark Jones scored seven points while Noel Duesterheft and Chris Brawley scored four points each for Mineral Wells.
Bryan Farmer completed the Mineral Wells scoring with a pair of points.
Notes ... Mineral Wells played Dallas Adamson on Friday in the second round of the tournament.
The two-point loss was the second in a row for the Rams and left Mineral Wells with a 5-4 season record. The Rams opened the season with four consecutive wins but have lost four of their last five games.

WYLIE — The Mineral Wells Lady Rams basketball team opened tourney play at Wylie High School on Thursday with a 64-46 win over the Dallas Christian Lady Chargers.
The 18-point win in the opening round game of the Commonwealth Land & Title Co. Classic in Wylie was the fourth win in a row for the Lady Rams and moved Mineral Wells to 6-5 on the season.
Mineral Wells took a 32-23 first-half lead and put the win away with a 32-23 second-half rally, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Notes ... No Mineral Wells scoring totals were reported by the Lady Rams coaching staff.
The Lady Rams and Rams basketball teams are set to open play in a revised district that includes eight teams. The Lady Rams are scheduled to open the District 8-4A race on Tuesday when Mineral Wells visits Aledo.The Rams are set to open District 8-4A play on Dec. 19 when the Joshua Owls pay a visit to MWHS. The Rams and Lady Rams are each set to play 14 district games.
