Godley manhandles Millsap 50-7 in district opener

GODLEY — Godley High School quarterback Riley Good and running back Landry Martinez ran all over the Millsap Bulldogs’ defense in a 50-7 victory Friday night at Wildcat Stadium in the District 6-2A opener.

Good accounted for 202 yards on 12 rushing attempts and scored four touchdowns.

Martinez, on the other hand, piled up 163 yards on 11 carries with three touchdowns.

He averaged a whopping 16.8 yards per carry and Martinez picked up 14.8 yards on average.

Godley rushed for 340 yards on 33 carries and limited Millsap to 100 yards on 31 rushes.

Good completed 6-of-13 passes for 75 yards, with Martinez on the receiving end of two passes for 23 yards.

Good ran 60 yards for a touchdown on the first play and gave the Cats a 6-0 lead with 11:43 in the first period.

Good scored another touchdown on a 10-yard run and Godley had a 12-0 lead.

Millsap cut the deficit to 12-7 with a trick play when quarterback Westin Vogl took the snap out of the shotgun and lateraled it to Duell Patterson, who found Landon Meeker in the back of the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown with 2:26 left in the half.

Godley forced five fumbles and recovered two of them while Ty Young intercepted a pass.

Landry Martinez scored a touchdown on a 20-yard run with 1:18 left in the second quarter and added a two-point conversion as Godley moved the halftime score to 20-7.

Martinez scampered 55-yards for a TD with 8:22 left in the third quarter. before Good raced 50 yards for a TD as Godley moved ahead 34-7.

Godley defensive end Sam Hays tackled a Millsap ball carrier in the end zone for a safety that made it 36-7 midway through the third quarter.

Martinez added a 39-yard scoring run with 3:42 left in the third and Good scored from 48 yards out a minute into the fourth quarter.
