Sports is a wonderful thing or at least it can be from time to time.
With each new season, everything can and often does change.
The Mineral Wells Rams and Lady Rams have seen both sides of this coin, both good and the bad during recent years.
During recent seasons, teams from Mineral Wells High School have played in one of the toughest athletic districts in Texas.
Times have been tough for teams from MWHS to say the least.
Last season, not one Mineral Wells High School team posted a winning record despite a world of work and dedication at all levels.
One of the best things about the games we play is that there is always another game or another season to look forward to.
Mineral Wells High School sports fans are looking forward to an end of an era of sub-par play during a rapidly-approaching new school year.
The Rams and Lady Rams are more than ready to begin play in a new stadium as well as playing in a new and generally less potent district.
Several other impending internal and administrative changes should help the Rams football program yield more positive results.
A comparison drawn from the 2006 and 2007 editions of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football help illustrate the point.
The Rams and Lady Rams are looking forward to moving from District 8-4A to District 6-4A.
In the fall of 2007, football teams from District 8-4A — Mineral Wells, Aledo, Stephenville, Crowley, Everman, Alvarado, Joshua and Cleburne — compiled a stunning combined win-loss record of 52-39 and had a amazing combined winning percentage of .571.
Nine of the district’s losses in 2007 were by the Mineral Wells Rams.
The District 8-4A numbers from the 2006 football season are just as startling.
District 8-4A football teams compiled a combined win-loss record of 50-38 and had a combined winning percentage of .588.
During the last two years, the eight District 8-4A football teams piled up 102 wins, a combined total of just 74 losses and had a combined winning percentage of .579.
The following is a year-by-year look at the district‘s football combined win-loss record.

LOOKING AHEAD
The going has not been near as tough during the last two football teams in the Rams’ new football district.
The Ram’s new District 6-4A football lineup includes eight teams — Aledo, Mineral Wells, Springtown, Saginaw High School, White Settlement Brewer, Saginaw Boswell Birdville and Azle.
Mineral Wells lone win in football last season was over Springtown, which turned out to be a state playoff team.
In 2006 football teams in the new district had a 43-45 combined win-loss record and an overall winning percentage of just .488.
The teams that will be in the District 6-4A football race this fall had a combined win-loss of just 20-49 to go along with a combined winning percentage of .290.
Notes ... Mineral Wells has a combined 5-15 win-loss record during its last two football seasons.
