Billue pours in 21 to lead Ladycats to win and Albany tourney title

ALBANY – Payton Billue scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Santo Ladycats to a 49-41 victory over Albany Saturday in the championship game of the Albany tournament.

The win raises the state-ranked No. 5 Ladycats to 15-2.

Sarah Van Remmen was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and Billue, Taylor Nemeth, Alyssa McKennon and Courtney Flanagan were named to the all-tournament team.

“It was a great team effort,” Ladycats head coach Tony Raffaele said. “We only had seven players (Saturday) and everyone contributed.

“I thought Megan MacPherson and Chloe McGlaun played big roles for us (in the championship game).”

Also scoring for the Ladycats were Flanagan with 11 points, Nemeth and McKennon, each with five, McGlaun with three, and Van Remmen and MacPherson, each with two.

Van Remmen led on the boards with 16 rebounds.

Wildcats defeat Hawley for third

ALBANY –  Christopher Hoover and Cooper Barling each scored 11 points and Zarmorris Cannon added nine to lead the Santo Wildcats to a 52-42 win over Hawley Saturday afternoon in the third-place game of the Albany tournament.

Barling and Tim Long were selected to the all-tournament team.

Also scoring for the Wildcats were Shane Scott with five, Parker Conaway with four, and Colton Edwards, Jordan Edwards, Long and Andrew Watkins, each with two.

Lady Rabbits take third at Perrin

PERRIN – Sydney Wimberly scored 25 points and Tyler Wimberly added 14 as the pair led the Graford Lady Rabbits to a 39-19 win over Henrietta Midway Saturday in the third-place game of the Perrin tournament.

“This was a really good tournament for the girls, and I was happy with the result,” Lady Rabbits head coach Jarod Westmoreland said. “We were disappointed with the outcome Friday against Saint Jo because we thought we didn’t play our best game.

“I was not sure how we would play Saturday, but we had our best game of the year.”

Also scoring for the Lady Rabbits were Morgan Hendershott with eight points, Erika Chemello and Ashly Rogers, each with seven, Ashley Hay with six and Katie Rochelle with four.

Lady Hounds place third at Albany

ALBANY – Jacqueline Berumen scored 22 points and had five steals and Jayde Price added 20 points and a game-high 15 rebounds to lead the Strawn Lady Hounds to a 61-47 win over Cross Plains Saturday for third place at the Albany tournament.

Also scoring for Strawn (11-5) were Cori Pollock with 14 points, Shelly Abbott with three and Tearany Atkins with two.

Abbott also recorded a game-high 13 assists.
