Fire destroys Lone Camp area home

By CHRIS AGEE

Firefighters from multiple area agencies responded to a residential fire late Wednesday evening in the 8300 block of Farm-to-Market Road 4 South.

According to Palo Pinto County Fire Marshal Buddy Harwell, crews from Lone Camp, Santo, Palo Pinto, Lake Palo Pinto and Mineral Wells helped battle the blaze, adding Parker County sent a tanker truck to the scene.

The fire started shortly after 11 p.m., according to a spokesperson with Mineral Wells Fire/EMS, and Harwell said a stove was the likely source.

Residents were "cooking on a wood-burning, potbelly-type stove," he said, explaining they told him "the chimney part going to the attic and the top of the house got very hot and was glowing cherry red and the fire got into the attic."

The home was destroyed, Harwell added, despite the diligent efforts of firefighters at the scene.

"We got there and tried to get water on it and determine where it was at," he said. "By the time we got in there, it took off in the attic and the wind was blowing just enough."He said damp ground conditions caused by recent rain probably prevented the fire from spreading beyond the home.

The two adult occupants inside the home when the fire started were uninjured, he explained, noting the home was not insured.
