Crimestoppers reward offered for information in vehicle thefts
Two vehicles were reported stolen in the northwest part of Mineral Wells between Saturday night and early Tuesday morning and there were three other attempts to hot wire vehicles in the same area, according to Mineral Wells police, and they are asking for help solving the crimes.
Those who provide information through the Palo Pinto County Crime Stoppers program that leads to the arrest or indictment of anyone committing a felony may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000. Information can be left anonymously at the Crime Stoppers number: (940) 325-0000.
A 2004 International box truck was stolen from a business in the 300 block of N.W. 7th Street at approximately 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to police.
A camera at the business showed the vehicle being driven off at that time, police said.
The truck had the words Texas Packaging written on the doors, according to police.
The same night, two other vehicles were broken into in the same area, according to police.
Around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the owner of a 1989 Jeep in the 500 block of N.W. 3rd Street went out to warm up the vehicle and found the door ajar, the steering column broken, and all the ignition wires cut.
About the same time, the owner of a 1990 Ford Ranger pickup in the 900 block of N.W. 4th Avenue also discovered an attempt to hot wire the vehicle. The steering column was found broken, the ignition wires cut and a cell phone and $30 were missing from the glovebox.
Monday evening, a resident in the 500 block of N.W. 6th Street reported a 1993 Dodge Dakota pickup missing. It was stolen between midnight Sunday and midnight Monday, according to a police report, though it was not immediately reported missing.
A man in the 500 block of N.W. 6th Street reportedly thwarted an attempt to steal his 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup just after midnight Sunday, police said.
The man reportedly ran outside after realizing the headlights shining through his window were from his own vehicle running in the driveway and chased down two men wearing jeans and black leather coats who jumped from his vehicle.
They outran him and he returned to find his truck’s steering column broken and the ignition wires cut.
