This week’s Pet of the Week is Sandy, a 2-year-old female American bulldog.
This piebald beauty is muscular, like her breed standard. She adores attention and affection and gives the same back to friends and strangers.
Sandy came to the shelter as a stray after having weaned a litter of puppies. Shelter staff said she has been around hundreds of dogs and liked them all, with one exception – a small poodle. They say she is “well behaved and loving” and “loves attention.”
Sandy has plenty of youthful energy and needs consistent daily physical and mental exercise to stay mindful and relaxed.
American bulldogs are loyal, reliable, brave and determined. Alert and self-confident, this breed genuinely loves children. It is known for its acts of heroism toward its master. It has strong protective instincts, and needs an owner who is firm, confident, caring and consistent.
Compact, strong and sturdy, the breed is taller and more agile than it’s English counterpart. It is not a hostile dog. However, because of their strength and ability to jump high, dogs like Sandy need a tall, secure fence. They should be fine around physically strong and aware people – older children and active adults – but on a leash and monitored while around anyone who is more fragile.
The cost to adopt Sandy includes spaying and a rabies shot. To adopt her, or any of numerous dogs and cats, call the Mineral Wells Animal Shelter at (940) 328-7752.
