The Texas Department of Criminal Justice confirmed Wednesday that Mark Emmons McLaughlan, 34, died on Dec. 29.
McLaughlan was serving out a life without parole sentence at the TDCJ’s Michael Unit near Tennessee Colony in Anderson County. He was convicted in Palo Pinto County of capital murder last February in the beating death of 2-year-old Perrin resident Cayson Mosley.
TDCJ Public Information Officer Jason Clark stated that McLaughlan was found “not responsive” in his cell about 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 29 by staff and CPR was started. He was subsequently taken to the prison infirmary “where he was pronounced dead,” Clark said.
The cause of death was listed as “undetermined” and TDCJ reported McLaughlan’s body was sent off for autopsy.
