A fire that destroyed a house, two outbuildings and killed two pet dogs Saturday afternoon is believed to have started as an electrical problem.

Parker County Fire Marshal Shawn Scott said the fire started at an electric outlet on the south side of the house where Christmas lights were plugged in.

A stiff wind from the south spread the fire quickly through out the house and to two outbuildings north of the home.

Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene first followed by Millsap Volunteer Fire Department but the house was already engulfed, Scott said. Volunteers from Greenwood, Peaster, Adell-Whitt and Weatherford also responded.

Charles and Joe Yarbrough reportedly arrived home to find their home and belongings gone.

“Mr. Yarbrough got a call from his neighbor,” Scott said.

The two dogs in the house are believed to have died in the fire.

“You hate to see that this time of year,” Scott said.

Scott said people should be cautious in their use of Christmas lights and space heaters during this winter season.
