DPS stepping up patrols for holiday weekend

The Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol announced they are stepping up their presence over the holiday weekend.

In addition to regular patrols, they have organized a task force to have a trooper every 10 miles along the interstate between Tarrant County and Eastland County over the holiday weekend, DPS Trooper Sgt. Jason Dudley said.

Two injured in wreck
Two people were transported to a Stephenville hosptial Tuesday afternoon after a 2007 Mini Cooper rolled several times in a wreck on Interstate 20, DPS reported.

The eastbound vehicle veered left, overcorrected and side-skidded into the median of the highway, Sgt. Jason Dudley reported. The vehicle then rolled approximately four times.

The driver, Alyssa Finch, 19, of North Richland Hills, and the passenger, Landon Beam, 20, of Keller, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville, according to Dudley. Both were wearing seat belts.

Man arrested for crack cocaine
Wilbert Ratliff, 54, of Mineral Wells, was arrested Nov. 19 for manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, more than 4 grams, less than 200 grams.

Department of Public Safety Sgt. Jason Dudley said a trooper found crack cocaine that was allegedly being transported from Fort Worth to Mineral Wells.

Assault in local business
A man reportedly entered a business in the 100 block of S.E. 10th Avenue around 7 p.m. Monday and began reportedly began assaulting an employee, his girlfriend, who had just broken up with him before going to work, according to police.

The man allegedly struck the manager in front of witnesses and pushed the woman out the back door before fleeing on foot before police arrived.

Dog stolen
The owner of a 9-month-old pit bull reported it stolen Monday, according to police. While she was out of town the dog went missing, police said. The roommate reported a man known only by his first name and who’d interacted with the dog previously came to walk the dog, according to the report.

Burglaries
• Police said a business in the 1900 block of U.S. Highway 180 West reported an attempted burglar Monday morning. The security cameras were pushed up, the power on one side of the building was off and the phone lines had been disconnected when they arrived to work, police said. However, everything was found secure and nothing was reported missing, according to the report.

• A burglary of habitation in the 300 block of N.E. 27th Street was reported, police said. Four 18-inch chrome wheels and tires were reported stolen by a family member sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Nov. 13. There were no signs of force entry. Police said the family member was reportedly seen with the items in a pickup and was told to return them but did not.

• The passenger side window of a 2000 BMW was broken out while the owner was at work in the 600 block of Farm-to-Market Road 1821 North and a purse and sunglasses were stolen, according to police. The items were valued at $575, police said.

• A vacant house in the 200 block of N.W. 1st Street was reportedly entered recently by a burglary, according to police. A caretaker reported Monday finding the window air conditioning unit removed and placed on the ground. Several boxes were moved around inside the home but they were unsure if anything was stolen, police said.

• A lock on a trailer was cut sometime Sunday night or Monday morning and eight wheels and 12 rims were reported stolen from it at a business in the 500 block of S.E. 1st Street, according to police. The items were valued at over $1,900, police said.

Arrests
Police reported making the following arrests:

• Troy Mac Beard, 25, of Mineral Wells, was arrested Tuesday about 2 a.m. for loud music, a city ordinance violation, after an officer reportedly told him to turn it down around 1:20 a.m. when a neighbor called police.

• Crystal Marie Moore, 29, of Mineral Wells, was arrested Tuesday for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous drug, expired registration and an open container of alcohol. She was initially stopped for a traffic violation in the 900 block of N.W. 1st Avenue, police said. She was reportedly going between five mph and 10 mph and had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. When she asked to retrieve her purse, officers requested to look in her purse and she gave them permission, according to the report. Six pills of alprazolam and a pill of carisoprodol were found in her purse, police said.

• Lealand L. Hicks, 21, of Mineral Wells, was arrested Wednesday for failure to signal a turn, expired registration and inspection and driving without insurance.

• Carnell Thompson Jr., 21, of Mineral Wells, was arrested Wednesday for running a stop sign.

• Brooke Nicole Glover, 18, of of Mineral Wells, was arrested Wednesday for possession of drug paraphernalia.
