Colleges, universities, military services and the like were the fare in the Mineral Wells High School cafeteria Wednesday morning as area students scoped out their options beyond high school.
As MWHS seniors Christian Jackson and Phillip Hayes checked out the Tarleton State University table, they said they are scouting for a four-year university that is relatively close to home. Jackson said he wants to attend a school that has a good business program and said he plans to become a certified public accountant in the future.
Senior Ines Velasquez spoke to Texas Women’s University Admissions Counselor Courtney Hancock.
“I’m looking for a school that can prepare me for medical school,” she told the Index, adding that she wants to eventually become a pediatrician.
Many Texas post-secondary institutions and military recruiters came to MWHS to share their institution’s opportunities with local students. Also attending the event were students from Perrin, Graford, Millsap and Santo High Schools.
All week, MWHS has been focusing on college admissions, college selections, financial aid and scholarship preparation with students, according to MWHS Career Guidance Facilitator Kim Ortiz.
This morning, students heard about life during and after high school from motivational speaker Kristen Blair, of Southlake, crowned 2009 Miss Texas.
Ortiz said Friday, the final day of “Go Get It Week,” is focused on financial aid for students.
On Dec. 3, parents and prospective college students will have another chance to learn more about financing college at MWHS’s financial-aid night, presented through the Ultimate Money Skills College Funding Seminar.
