Mineral Wells High School is encouraging students to “Go Get It” this week through a state initiative for students to go to college and be successful after high school.

The high school will have many events throughout the week “because we want students to plan ahead and be prepared for their future,” said MWHS Career Guidance Facilitator Kim Ortiz.

“We will be focusing on college admissions, college selections and financial aid and scholarship preparation [during the week],” she added.

On Wednesday, from 9 to 11 a.m., MWHS will host its annual college day, which also invites students from Millsap, Perrin, Graford and Santo high schools.

Ortiz said the college day will have all post-secondary options, including representatives from two-year and four-year colleges, technical schools, training centers and the military.

Miss Texas, Kristen Blair of Southlake, will visit with MWHS students on Thursday at 9 a.m.

Ortiz said Blair, a motivational speaker, would discuss life during and after high school.

This presentation includes, Ortiz said, “Do what students are supposed to do – work hard at their academics – so they are prepared for life after high school and how to achieve success in life after high school.”

Friday is focused on financial aid for students, but it's not the only chance students have to learn about the process. MWHS will follow up on the topic with a financial-aid night, Dec. 3, through the Ultimate Money Skills College Funding Seminar.
