The City of Mineral Wells, with a levy of 1.5 percent on taxable retail sales, saw an October sales tax check nearly 33 percent below its October 2008 check with its total receipts since Jan. 1 down nearly $1 million, compared to the same period a year ago. The cities of Millsap. Mingus and Strawn as well as Palo Pinto County also saw sharply lower October sales tax revenue checks. However, collections in Gordon and Graford remain above 2008 levels.

Sales tax disbursements in October showed that retail spending in August was still down compared to August 2008.
The City of Mineral Wells, with a levy of 1.5 percent on taxable retail sales, saw an October sales tax check nearly 33 percent below its October 2008 check with its total receipts since Jan. 1 down nearly $1 million, compared to the same period a year ago.
The cities of Millsap. Mingus and Strawn as well as Palo Pinto County also saw sharply lower October sales tax revenue checks. However, collections in Gordon and Graford remain above 2008 levels.

Man, woman arrested in drug bust at local bar
Gary Ross Nickols, 56, of Mineral Wells, and Elise Nichole Dalton, 25, of Millsap, were arrested Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. at a bar in the 1600 block of South Oak after Mineral Wells police assisted the City-County Narcotics Unit, reportedly acting on information obtained by CCNU.

Man involved in bar fight ends up at hospital
A man was transported to the hospital after a fight at a bar in the 2800 block of U.S. Highway 281 South around midnight Sunday, according to police, who provided backup to the Palo Pinto County Sheriff's Office on the call.
