Crazy Womanless pageant next Saturday

Male pageant contestants hope for a little lady luck

From Staff Reports

There’s nothing like looking at someone who kind of looks like a woman, but has a five o’clock shadow wearing a sleeveless top exposing a set of hairy arms and a dress with a revealing split up the side that makes you want to grab needle and thread to close it.

Good thing beer is included in the price of admission.

Of course, this describes the fun that goes with the annual Crazy Womanless Beauty Pageant and fundraiser set to take place Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Activity Center at Wolters Industrial Park, across from City Gym.

The event is sponsored by the Pythian Sisters Temple No. 14, with proceeds benefiting Meals on Wheels of Palo Pinto County, the food bank of First Christian Church and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Palo Pinto Challenge, Cocoon and CASA for the Cross Timbers.

The doors will open at 7 p.m. and the pageant will begin at 7:45 p.m. Advance tickets are $15, $25 per couple, or $20 per person at the door. A barbecue sandwich meal, provided by Mesquite Pit, beer and soft drinks are included with the ticket. No one under 21 years of age will be admitted.

The event will be emceed by Betty Hawkins. Serving as judges are Cora Moore, Mike Allen and Jeff Cowan.

Several past pageant winners and contestants are scheduled to take part this year, including the past two winners, Roy Burkhalter and Mike Eubank. Also slated to compete are Bryan Daniel, Bob Manskey, Casey Lister, Paul Headrick, James (Tony) Curtis and Dewayne Wood.

Advance tickets are available from any Pythians sister or by calling Barbara Myers at (940) 325-9152 or (940) 859-1419; Donna Cromer at (940) 452-1532; or Melanie Curtis at (940) 452-6877.

“Come leave your troubles at home and laugh for a couple of hours,” said Myers.
