Kuhn grand marshal for 2009 homecoming parade
Mineral Wells High School Principal John Kuhn will serve as grand marshal for tonight's 2009 Homecoming Parade.
The parade is scheduled to get under way at 6:30 p.m.
The MWHS Student Council selects the parade’s grand marshal based on his or her dedication to education and to enriching the lives of students. Kuhn, who is serving his third year as high school principal, has made a career of working to enrich the lives of students. In fact, his motto for the high school campus is “Every Student, Every Day, Whatever it Takes.”
Kuhn began pursuing his goal of becoming an educator after graduating from Perrin-Whitt High School in 1991. After leaving Tarleton State University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, he worked in Peru as a missions volunteer for two years. After returning to the U.S., Kuhn began teaching Spanish in Graford ISD. In 2002, Kuhn came to MWHS, where he taught Spanish for a year and a half before becoming an assistant principal in January 2004. After obtaining his master’s degree in Educational Administration, he became the high school principal in 2007.
Kuhn and his wife of 12 years, Noelia, have three children: Noah, 8, Evan, 5, and Liliana 2. Noelia is a Spanish teacher at Perrin-Whitt High School and previously taught for five years at Mineral Wells High School.
In his spare time, Kuhn enjoys writing, fishing, watching sports and riding his dirt bike. The Kuhns are active members of the Brazos Pointe Church and he is a member of the Mineral Wells Rotary Club. He also serves on the advisory board for the T-MATE program at Tarleton State University. In the summer of 2008, Kuhn was one of 100 Texas principals who had the honor of attending Harvard University's Principal Leadership Institute.
The 2009 Homecoming Parade will begin at its traditional starting point on North Oak Avenue and finish at Miller Stadium where Kuhn will help light the bonfire blaze. Homecoming festivities will continue Friday at the high school’s homecoming pep rally, beginning at 10:29 a.m.
The Rams will take on the Springtown Porcupines at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Ram Stadium. The 2009 homecoming queen and her court will be presented at halftime. All alumni are encouraged to attend homecoming activities.
