Four arrests made in PK store burglary

From Staff Reports

PALO PINTO – Palo Pinto County Sheriff Ira Mercer said four people have been charged and a fifth is being sought in connection with a weekend burglary of a Possum Kingdom Lake convenience store.

Mercer said the North 40 store on Farm-to-Market Road 2353 was broken into sometime late Saturday or early Sunday morning by breaking out a large front window.

The suspects then went inside, taking several thousands of dollars worth of lottery tickets, beer and tobacco products and other items, Mercer said.

He said the sheriff’s department was notified of the incident Sunday morning. As the investigation was under way that day, Mercer said officials with the Haltom City Police Department, saying they had four people in custody and had recovered items taken from the PK business.

“They were discovered in Haltom City trying to break into another building,” said Mercer. “They were found with cash and stolen items and Haltom City police contacted us. One of the kids talked. We went over there with investigators and talked to them.”

Mercer said the suspects told them they were at PK Lake visiting a friend who had recently moved there. He said they are suspects in criminal mischief to a vehicle in Parker County parked on the side of a road and to another vehicle in Haltom City.

The sheriff said investigators were able to recover some of the beer and most of the tobacco products stolen.

Charged with burglary of a building were Anthony Smith, 17, of Fort Worth; Nicholas Davis, 19, of Haltom City; Shelby Nicholas, 17, of Watauga, and Audrey Brown, 18, Garland. Mercer said bonds of $20,000 for set for each and said a fifth person is sought by authorities.

Mercer said the group is also facing charges in Parker and Tarrant counties as the investigation continues.
