Junior History Club of Mineral Wells held its monthly meeting at the Woman's Building on Feb. 14. Nancy Martin presided in the absence of Bonnie Ray. Hostess and program leaders for the month were Ruby Paulsen and Mary Creighton (bottom photo). Tables were decorated with valentines and hearts. A delightful dessert and specialty coffees were served. The program was presented by Mary Creighton. Mary reviewed the history of the Medal of Honor project here in Mineral Wells and related individual stories of interest about seven of the men being honored. There were 14 recipients of the Medal of Honor who trained either at Camp Wolters (WWII) or Fort Wolters (Vietnam War). A site named Camp Wolters Historical Park by MWISD, on the east lawn at the high school where Old Camp Wolters began, was dedicated March 23, 2013. This year a large memorial will be dedicated at Fort Wolters Historical Park on March 23, sponsored by the Fort Wolters Gate Committee and funded by generous donations of several groups and citizens.
