You can serve yourself at MW’s latest local dessert spot

By CHRIS AGEE

Brightly painted walls create a fun environment for Mineral Wells' newest dessert destination.

According to owner Amanda Hinojos, The Yogurt Stop is a self-serve frozen yogurt shop that allows customers to create their own sweet masterpiece.

"Just come in and choose whatever yogurt amount and whatever toppings you want to put on it," she said.

With a variety of flavors and toppings to choose from, she said any combination is available for the same weight-based price.

Hinojos said the family owned business is able to offer an expanding array of choices and is already planning to increase the number of flavors available.

"This is our own personal store," she said. "It's not a franchise."

She did say the inspiration came from similar stores in other communities, such as Yogurt Story in Weatherford, though she said the shop will retain an independent atmosphere as the only one of its kind.

The Yogurt Stop is very much "a family thing," she said, noting, "we've lived in the area since 1999."

Yogurt options include the traditional flavors, Hinojos said, along with some more unique offerings such as red velvet, cookies and cream, and birthday cake.

She said there are also sugar-free and non-dairy options.

Topping choices include a variety of fresh fruits, candy, and miniature brownie and cheesecake bites.

Hinojos said she wants the store to be a positive addition to the community, explaining the majority of work done in preparing the space was completed by locals.

She said even local students joined in the preparation through a class assignment at Mineral Wells Junior High.

According to Hinojos, about 100 seventh- and eighth-grade students participated in a contest to create fliers for The Yogurt Stop, with the top five designs being used to promote the business. As an added reward, she said the finalists will all receive coupons for free frozen treats.

Along with her sister, Stephanie Jenkins, and parents, Gene and Judy Yeager, Hinojos said she is excited to open Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

Though a shipping delay means the shop will only be able to accept cash payments for the first few days, she said all other aspects of the business are complete.

The store is located in Suite 25 of the Brazos Mall.
