The Palo Pinto County Master Gardener Association wants to grow a new crop of interns to join their corps.
The all-volunteer organization works as an arm of the Palo Pinto County Agrilife Extension Agency, helping educate citizens about sustainable plants and gardening and working to green up some of the county's public areas.
Every two years PPCMGA recruits new interns, who go through a series of classes in the fall and a year of projects before becoming full-fledged members of the local organization.
On July 26 the master gardeners will host a mandatory orientation for prospective 2012-13 interns. The orientation session begins at 9 a.m. at the county extension office, located at 221 S. 5th Avenue, Palo Pinto, TX 76484.
The purpose of the orientation is to give prospective interns an overview of the master gardener program. It also provides those interested with an understanding of the commitment required, to help them decide if the program is right for them. Applications will only be available at the orientation session.
Prospective interns must be full-time residents of Palo Pinto County and must attend the July 26 orientation to be considered for the 2012-13 class. The series of classes are expected to start Thursday, Oct. 11, and continue each Tuesday and Thursday through Nov. 15. Sessions are approximately from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Parker County Extension Office in Weatherford.
