“Fluffy”, this week’s Pet of the Week, is a 4-month-old non-neutered Shih Tzu mix male puppy. Normally, this breed has a long-flowing, double coat, but this owner-released puppy was clipped, similar to a poodle. She is white with cream spots on her back.
Shih Tzu’s were cherished by Chinese royals as house pets for thousands years. Descendants of the Lhasa Apso or Tibetan Mountain dog, crossed with a Pekingese, the Shih Tzu was discovered by Allied soldiers in England during World War II.
Fluffy is lively, alert and friendly, with a sole purpose to be a companion and house pet. His temperament is outgoing, happy, affectionate, friendly and trusting towards all. He’d need exercise outside, on a leash, or within a secure fence because his friendliness would likely involve meeting all the neighbors in the block.
Playful and spunky, this affectionate dog is very trainable. It is important that the person who adopts Fluffy sets consistent rules for him, since he is a puppy, and cares for his beautiful coat with regular brushing.
The cost of adoption includes neutering and a rabies shot. To adopt Fluffy, or any of numerous dogs and cats, call the Mineral Wells Animal Shelter at (940) 328-7752.
