Mineral Wells now officially has its own Disabled American Veterans chapter.
National Headquarters of Disabled American Veterans in Cold Spring, Ky., announced this past week the formation and acceptance of DAV Chapter 235 in Mineral Wells.
Vice Adjutant George Krieg with the Texas DAV State Headquarters in Grand Prairie, Texas, met with Mineral Wells elected officers on Tuesday to inform them of their chapter acceptance by DAV national headquarters. Mineral Wells Chapter 235 officers in attendance were Derroll Ross, commander; Jim Vines, adjutant; and Ralph Lister, treasurer.
Vines, whose responsibilities include media information said, “We are extremely excited about our opportunity to lend a helping hand in the community and surrounding counties. We will keep it very simple. Our Chapter 235 motto is, ‘Here To Help.’ Individuals, families, organizations, whenever and wherever we can be of assistance, we will become involved.”
DAV Chapter 235 will initiate renovation and remodeling of their offices in November. Until construction is completed, Chapter 235 will hold meetings at Mineral Wells VFW Post 2399 the first Tuesday of each month starting Sept. 1st. Meetings begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. with a call to order.
“We have a very strong and committed membership that’s anxious to get started,” said Vines. “Our veteran members consist of men and women from various cities and counties, as well as wars and conflicts. Many of us are involved with the National Vietnam War Museum and know how easy it is to be forgotten.”
