Three local firefighters are set to take part in a Dallas event meant to memorialize the Sept.11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Several Mineral Wells Fire Department crew members made the climb last year, including Dusty Benthall, who is among those taking part again next month.
“It just put the whole event into perspective,” he said of his participation on the 10th anniversary of the attacks. “Actually seeing 343 firemen all lined up at the same time, it was just inspiring.”
The Dallas 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, one of several across the nation, is sponsored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, Benthall said, and proceeds raised will benefit the organization as well as regional groups dedicated to serving the families of fallen fire personnel.
Each participant is tasked with raising $1 for each of the 110 floors they will scale in Dallas’ Renaissance Tower, he explained.
Those interested in assisting them in reaching their goal can donate by clicking the “donate” tab at www.dallasstairclimb.com.
