Fires kept local, area fire crews jumping over the weekend

By CHRIS AGEE | cagee@mineralwellsindex.com

According to Mineral Wells fire reports, volunteer and paid firefighters were called to a number of Memorial Day weekend blazes.

The first, a structure fire in the 300 block of Bowie Drive, was reported around 5:25 p.m. Friday, reports indicate.

Crews worked to prevent the fire from escaping the immediate vicinity, though the unoccupied building was reportedly completely destroyed.

Officials say a nearby resident was burning trash in a barrel shortly before the structure fire. Embers from the trash fire likely ignited the building, reports conclude.
